2/5/09 We went to Big Bear and Arrow Head for two days on a sight seeing trip with John and Ruths Beck. The scenery was awsome and I'll try to download some pictures. It is much like the Bend area weather wize. It is LA's and Palm Spings place to escape the heat in the summer time. We drove the "RIM OF THE WORLD DRIVE' and it had views of the San Bernardino valley from some 8000 feet give or take and it rivaled some of the scenery we saw in the rugged mountains of Peru and Chile. However in was a bit hazy and pictures of it had to be taken into the sun. In addition we found a lot of mighty fine dining in Big Bears version of Sun Valley.

Sunday, Jan 25: Hi, haven't been very good at keeping up the blog. Can't seem to get pictures from phone camera to computer! We have kept pretty busy. Water arobics in the AM twice a week for an hour to make us stronger, more healthy, and maybe smarter! We golf some everyday, sometimes 9 holes, sometimes 18 and some times just the practice range. John Beck and I went on a nine mile bike ride. It was up hill both ways and in the sun. We're pretty tough though! Delores and Ruth shopped for 4 hours -- now thats really tuff!!
Grace and Josh were here for three days. I think they became addicted to the weather, fine food and swimming pool. Their other grandparents, Don and Linda and us took them to some mighty fine restraunts in down town Palm Springs, we toured the Mariott Hotel, swam and hot tubbed and played "put" on real greens. We wish they could stay all winter.

Jan. 18 we are here in beautiful Palm Desert. Grace and boy friend Josh arrived Fri. for the weekend. Other grand parents Don and Linda invited them down for a long weekend. We went the famed elephant bar for dinner Friday night and toured the city of Palm Springs. Saturday we went to the College of the Desert which holds a "Saturday" market every week. It is about 20 acres of retail madness. But fun!!! Came back to our home on wheels and bar-b-Q'd Bergers.
Just a little update for those of you who don't know the family connections. Don and Linda son Kevin is married to our daughter Marla. They are parents to Grace. Don and Linda spend about 6 months of every year here at Emerald Desert and run the kitchen here and assist the park management.
We also meet other friends here. John and Ruth, old high school friends from Clarkston meet us here every winter.

Blog Lessons from Laura
This is my first blog! Mostly written by Laura who calls herself "lovely" and thinks her kids are extra sweet....what a sense of humor she has!
Hopefully we will keep you informed of the super exciting things we do and places we see as we travel. From now until the middle of February we will be in Palm Desert and from there we will go to Yuma for about a month. We will be home mid March until April 25th-----at which time we will be headed to the Netherlands to take a 27 day boat ride down the Rhine and Danube rivers to the black sea. Hopefully we will send you some nice photos and not much BS.
Just for your information, the neighbor lady, Stephanie, is feeding our huge pitbull and flesh eating python that we keep in the house. She is also tending to our guard chickens.
